The Problem: Black, Indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC) are not proportionally represented in the doula community, and low-income parents oftentimes cannot afford doulas. Some families are uneducated in what actually goes on in the birthing world at the time of birth.

The Solution: When a doula is present, parents are less likely to receive interventions, less likely to use pain medications, are informed about their birth rights,  prepared to stand up for themselves, and less likely to give birth by cesarean. Parents are also happier and more satisfied with their labor and birth experiences, and their babies are healthier at the 1 & 5 minute marks after birth.
